the yesterday syndrome

from Shanghai Kings by Shanghai Kings

/

about

recorded in Powhatan Virginia, June/July 1986

lyrics

my mind draws a blank
when there's empty paper, empty rooms
and I hear the highway roaring,
outside my window, in my head
and no one ever hears the thoughts I think
now when the night is old
and if they could, I'm sure they'd be confused,
the way I'm feeling now

I could light a fire in your heart
the beating of a drum that will not tire,
torn apart
I cannot feel the heat that comes from friction in my mind
that's melting my insides
It doesn't matter anyway, the yesterday syndrome.

I could write a poem and the words would not make any sense
but that would be quite useless since my energy has all been spent
I could try to go to sleep and close the world off from my sight
but voices saying that I failed
would echo in my head throughout the night

I could light a fire in your heart
the beating of a drum that will not tire,
torn apart
I cannot feel the heat that comes from friction in my mind
that's melting my insides
It doesn't matter anyway, the yesterday syndrome.
